UNION CAREERS
When you work in the union movement, you’re not just building a career, you’re standing up for justice, fairness, and dignity at work.
Whether you’re winning cases in the Fair Work Commission, negotiating with employers, on the ground organising workers, or behind the scenes crafting strategy or communications, union work is about making a real impact in people’s lives.
Be part of something bigger.
Real Justice, Real Impact
Unions empower workers and their families to stand up for their rights and get a fair deal.
We challenge exploitation, push for better conditions, and fight for systemic change that benefits everyone — not just the few.
Find Your Calling
Union work is more than a job, it’s a purpose. It’s for people who care about fairness, equality, and collective power.
Whether you’re just starting out or bringing skills from another field, there’s a place for you in our movement.
A Variety of Roles
If you’re passionate about workers’ rights and social justice, we want you:
- Organisers who support and grow union membership and build power,
- Industrial officers and legal professionals who represent workers and enforce workplace rights,
- Campaigners and communications experts who shift public narratives,
- Educators and trainers who equip workers with the skills to lead.
APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR ORGANISING WORKS – COMMENCING IN 2026
Organising Works is a training program developing new waves of diverse organisers.
Organisers employed by a union to work to help workers stand together, and build a better future for all working people. We are now reaching out to encourage all of our communities to apply for the wave of employed trainee organisers.
Trainees are employed by a union who support them as a new entrant to the role of Organiser by facilitating their participation in the comprehensive 12-month training program.
Trainees receive a mix of face-to-face education, online webinars, and self-paced online learning. Development of experience comes through their role, but also through Campaign Clinics.
Campaign Clinics deploy trainees in live campaigns, where they have opportunities to develop and implement all aspects of campaigning including planning, communications, recruitment, member decision making, mobilisation and engagement strategies.
Campaign Clinics provide opportunities for developing trainees’ learning and experience while providing ACTU affiliated unions with a resource to draw on for intensive campaign situations.
