NEW ACTU
PRESIDENT
LAUNCHES
SA
ELECTION
CAMPAIGN
21
July 2010
The
newly
elected
President
of the
ACTU Ged
Kearney
will be
in
Adelaide
Thursday
22 July
to
launch
the
union
movement's
election
campaign
in South
Australia.
The
launch
will
include
workers
talking
about
their
experiences
under
WorkChoices
and why
it is
imperative
the
Liberals
not be
given
another
chance
to wind
back the
clock on
worker's
rights.
SA
Unions
Secretary,
Janet
Giles
says the
launch
marks
the
start in
earnest
of the
grassroots
campaign
against
the
return
of the
Liberals
and
their
discredited
WorkChoices
legislation.
"The
last few
days of
debate
about
industrial
relations
has
revealed
that
Tony
Abbott
simply
cannot
be
trusted
not to
bring
back the
worst
aspects
of
WorkChoices."
"He may
try to
suggest
it is
dead and
buried,
but it
keeps
rising
zombie
like
from the
grave,
to
terrorise
working
Australians."
"Ged
Kearney
will be
driving
the
message
about
WorkChoices
-
whatever
the
name,
never
again,
in
launching
the
union
campaign
in the
key
marginal
seats of
Kingston
and
Sturt."
While
hear Ms
Kearney
will
also
address
workers
rallying
in
support
of
rigger
Ark
Tribe, a
CFMEU
member
facing 6
months
jail, on
trial in
the
Adelaide
Magistrates
Court
under
discriminatory
Australian
Building
and
Construction
Commission
laws.
Ms
Kearney
will
also
visit
worksites
and meet
with
union
officials
during
her one
day
visit.
